COVER LETTER
Sydney Springer
Award-Winning Author and Young Adult Novel Reviewer
Dear Hiring Manager,
I was five-years-old the first time I wrote something to be proud of. A remake of the classic fairytale Sleeping Beauty, a stage production directed and starring me. I was a skinny ten-year-old with crooked bangs when I was published in the August 2011 Friend. I wrote a story about how visiting Temple Square for the first time strengthened my testimony. At age 14 I itched for a place to record my feelings on the latest young adult and middle grade book releases, a platform just for book lovers. My bookstagram @sydneys.books was created and was recently featured on Goodreads. I was 17, writing a poem in the middle of the night on my bathroom floor. That poem became Love is a Lie, an award-winning poem that also earned me my first paycheck as a writer.

My love for writing is palpable and easily applies to any job I hold. The writing and publication experience I have already gained as an editor for BYU-Hawaii’s literary magazine Kula Manu, and as a writer for BYU’s The Daily Universe, have ignited a deep love in me for publishing. My skills with editing were firmly established when I became the copyeditor for Kula Manu, the very magazine I was published in. When I started my internship in digital marketing at the Polynesian Cultural Center I discovered that my skills in marketing for my blog translate to any industry. Regardless of where I work, I know my passion and creativity will shine through the challenges of learning new skills and expanding my horizons professionally.

I look forward to explaining my qualifications further in an interview. Thank you for your consideration.
Sincerely,
Sydney Springer
